Well, it’s been a while! This will not do if I intend to make this blog remotely fun and interesting for people to read 🙂
So, I’ve been up to many things. I did not finish my 30 Day Shred challenge, mostly because Jillian is a very large pain in the behind. After about three more days, I got sick of her shtick and started doing bodyrock.tv workouts. These are a great change of pace for me, although the plyometric moves used are similar. I love bodyrock and my Gymboss interval timer.
I’ve continued running the whole time. I went to San Diego for a few days, and really enjoyed my morning runs in the marina. Gorgeous and cool. I love it down there so very much. It was wonderful to see my grandparents and spend some quality time with them.
I celebrated my birthday, with a vow to see many more. As I grow older, I find myself focusing more on health and wellness in order to ensure vibrant longevity. Not a bad goal! My work in the emergency room further cements this desire. Seeing people in ill health and unable to do many things, especially when brought on by poor lifestyle choices, really makes you want to make your health a priority.
With that regard, I’ve been reading a lot of interesting information regarding diet. I’m in the middle of reading The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson, and I’m finding much of it fascinating. I’m not entirely convinced of everything he claims, but evolutionary science does give us a good insight into our bodies.
As a result, I’ve been basing my meals primarily around protein and vegetables, and avoiding large quantities of grains. It’s forcing me to use a wide variety of vegetables, which I am loving. I love experimenting in the kitchen.
I’ve also cut sugar and fruit out for a few weeks to reset my sweet tooth. I find that I tend to overindulge my sweet tooth, and will keep eating more and more. I have reintroduced some fruit, but in limited quantities so far. It is so much sweeter than before! The blogs Heather Eats Almond Butter and A Spoonful of Sugar Free have been a great asset during this “detox,” as well as Chocolate Covered Katie. Very limited sugar recipes. I’ve been feeling so well since I’ve quashed the candy cravings that I’m considering kicking sugar to the curb permanently. Well, perhaps after I’ve eaten the remaining Vosges bars I have in my freezer 😀
Today I had a majool date for the first time in forever. Amazing, but soooo much sweeter than I remember! I just adore dates, and I especially love them in Larabars. Homemade or the brand, either works well as fuel on my long runs. Incidentally, Katie is giving a box away. I’d love to win, but what flavor??
Anywho, I’m sure I’ll think of other things to update later, but my goal for this upcoming September is to update daily! I’m off for a evening walk on the River Trail.
